Benefits of Homemade Body Scrub – Homemade body scrubs are not only cheap and easy to make, they also provide the combination of cleansing, exfoliation and massage benefits that go beyond what a bar of soap can do. The use of natural ingredients means you are also lathering on minerals and vitamins that benefits your body in many ways!

Here are some recipes you can try at home, but don’t just stop there! Experiment with many other fresh ingredients readily available, and feel invigorated while saving money from expensive cosmetics!

Banana Sugar Scrub

Moisturizing, keeps skin tight, provides a youthful glow.

1 RIPE BANANA
3 TABLESPOONS GRANULATED SUGAR
1/4 SPOON PURE VANILLA EXTRACT (OPTIONAL)
FAVOURITE ESSENTIAL OIL (OPTIONAL)

Directions: Smash ingredients together with a fork into a chunky goop. Don’t over-mash or it will become too thin. If you want a banana scrub for your face, reserve some of the banana and mash it separately without sugar. In the shower, pat the sugar mixture and gently massage over your body. For your face, gently massage plain banana there, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water.

Lemon & Thyme Salt Scrub

Moisturizing, exfoliate, detoxify, soften skin, tones, improves pigmentation and acne.

1 CUP KOSHER SALT
ZEST OF 1 LEMON
2 TEASPOON FRESH THYME
1/2 CUP ORGANIC PURE ALMOND OIL

Directions: Pour the salt, lemon zest and thyme into a bowl. Mix well. Pour the almond oil over top and seal the bowl with cling wrap. Let the ingredients infuse for a while. To use, just give the scrub a stir to mix the oil and salt together, and scrub away in the shower! The scrub will keep for up to 6 months stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

Tomato Sugar Scrub

Exfoliate, detoxify, combats free radicals, slows down signs of ageing.

1 RIPE ORGANIC TOMATO
GRANULATED SUGAR

Directions: Slice the top part of the tomato, about 1cm from where the stem is. The sliced tomato will be used as the cleansing pad as the stem can used as a gripper. Holding onto the stem, dip the tomato pad onto the sugar, evenly coating it. Gently rub the tomato pad on to affected skin area in a circular motion. Leave the residue on skin for 10 mins before rinsing it off.

Eat the rest of the tomatoes while waiting, and enjoy the health benefits from the tomato!

Vanilla Coconut Sugar Scrub

Exfoliate, cleanse, moisturize, tighten skin, relaxing.

1/2 CUP COCONUT OIL
1/2 CUP BROWN SUGAR
1/2 TEASPOON VANILLA

Directions: Combine ingredients into a bowl. Mix well and seal the bowl with cling wrap. Let the ingredients infuse for a while. To use, just give the scrub a stir to mix the oil and salt together. Rub onto skin and massage for 10 minutes before rinsing off. The scrub will keep for up to 6 months stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
